Singtel and Royal Selangor unveil the trophy for the 2011 Formula One™ Singtel Singapore GP
Singapore, 1 September, 2011 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) and partner Royal Selangor today unveiled the new design of the winner’s trophy for the 2011 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. This is the second time that Singtel has partnered with Royal Selangor to design and manufacture the trophy for the world’s first ever night race.
The design of the new trophy aims to capture the essence of the event and is inspired by the Chinese saying “四海之内 皆兄弟” (“Si Hai Zhi Nei Jie Xiong Di”) which translates to “within the four seas, all men are brothers”. The design symbolises the union of the different nationalities congregating in the spirit of fair sportsmanship.
The trophy features slim panels that represent the different nationalities of the drivers and the skyscrapers set along the race track. The panels are in several finishes including satin, glossy black and brilliant and arranged sporadically to create a sense of movement akin to the speed of the race. Supporting the structure is a matte black finish wood and pewter base. A round pewter base is wrapped with a cross-shaped wood piece to resemble a steering wheel.
“We envisioned a trophy that is in line with our F1 theme this year, which is ‘Fast is Amazing,” said Ms Cheryl Wang, Director, Brand Experience, Singtel. “The team at Royal Selangor has created a trophy that truly evokes the speed, dynamism and unifying spirit of the race.”
Commenting on the commission of the trophy, General Manager of Royal Selangor Marketing, Mr Chen Tien Yue said, “We’re honoured that Singtel has once again entrusted us with the task of designing this year’s trophy. We are also proud that our design team has created a trophy that captures the spirit of the unity at the F1 race.”
The trophy stands at 587mm and will be lifted by the first, second, third place and construction winners of the race. Miniatures of the trophy will also be available at all Royal Selangor stores for F1 lovers to purchase. Replicas of the trophy will be placed at the Singtel Roadshow at Tampines Mall from 12-18 September as well as Royal Selangor stores at Clarke Quay from 1 September and Marina Bay Sands from 2 September for Formula One fans to have a closer look.
