Singapore, 4 August 2023 – Singtel has been awarded the highest honour, Impact Enterprise of the Year Award, at the inaugural Sustainability Impact Awards (SI Awards) 2023 by UOB and The Business Times, for being the leading corporation in Singapore to drive social and environmental change.

"As a homegrown brand, we’ve always felt a strong sense of stewardship, especially for advancing the well-being and progress of vulnerable segments of our society, even before sustainability became a priority for corporates."

Yuen Kuan Moon,
Group CEO, Singtel

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Singtel Group CEO, said, “As a homegrown brand, we’ve always felt a strong sense of stewardship, especially for advancing the well-being and progress of vulnerable segments of our society, even before sustainability became a priority for corporates. We took it upon ourselves to take actionable steps in creating long-lasting and real impact in the communities and environments that we operate in. By taking an integrated approach to fostering digital inclusion and equity through collaboration with partners such as national and social service agencies, like-minded business partners and customers, we’ve been able to develop and implement programmes that leverage our company’s collective resources to build a sustainable and inclusive future for all. Receiving this award is a validation of years of commitment towards creating positive change for all our stakeholders, and further motivates us in our mission to create a better world for future generations.”

Singtel believes in harnessing technology to create sustained and positive impact for our stakeholders. In line with that, Singtel’s sustainability strategy comprises four key pillars: Climate Change and Environment, People and Future of Work, Community Impact and Sustainable Value Creation.

Singtel’s win was attributed to its concerted efforts to create tangible and wide-reaching impact on the local community and environment. These include its well-established and extensive strategic community impact programmes, from helping seniors acquire digital literacy such as learning how to use smartphones through the Singtel Digital Silvers programme, to providing education to more than 3,000 students with special needs annually over the last 10 years through the Singtel Touching Lives Fund.

The telco also scored merits for its collaboration with partners, such as Engineering Good, that refurbished 840kgs of laptops and mobile devices that Singtel collected through donation drives for seniors and low-income families. It also factored in its Singtel Future Makers programme that encourages innovation to address community and social needs. To date, Singtel has invested S$5 million in over 80 local and regional social impact start-ups to build capacity and scale impact in areas such as healthcare education, environment and inclusion. Launched on 1 February 2023, the inaugural award is presented by UOB and The Business Times, and supported by the Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at the National University of Singapore Business School as the knowledge partner. It recognises and celebrates outstanding enterprises in Singapore that have demonstrated strong leadership, consistency and measurability of the impact they make through their sustainability initiatives.
