The Singapore government has been proactive in introducing various initiatives that incentivise businesses to adopt sustainable practices.

The Singapore Green Plan 2030 in particular outlined goals across areas including solar energy, waste reduction and carbon emissions.

This is an umbrella scheme consisting of 5 different grants that can support businesses with industrial facilities to improve energy efficiency. It can help generate cost savings depending on the project undertaken.

The 5 grants can be used for applications such as:

  • 50% support to carry out detailed energy audits
  • 50% support to conduct design workshops to improve efficiency for new facilities
  • 70% support to invest in energy efficient technologies

This incentivises installation of skyrise greenery on existing buildings across Singapore. Commercial buildings, business parks, industrial, educational institutions and community buildings are eligible to be considered for this grant.

An enhanced version of the Skyrise Greenery Incentive Scheme (SGIS) which funds up to 50% of installation costs of rooftop greenery and vertical greenery. SGIS has assisted in greening more than 110 existing buildings in Singapore.

SGIS 2.0 a revised maximum cap for both rooftop greenery and vertical greenery.

A new grant launched in September 2022, it aims to help businesses within the Food Services, Food Manufacturing or Retail sectors to cope with rising energy costs, through co-funding investments in more energy efficient equipment.

EEG offers funding support capped at $30,000, for companies looking to adopt energy-efficient equipment and reduce overall running costs.

SMBs can use EEG to adopt energy efficient air-conditioners, refrigerators, LED lighting and water heaters among others.

Facilitated by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) along with other participating financial institutions, the BREEF scheme offers financing to pay the upfront costs of energy retrofits of existing buildings.

It covers the cost of equipment, installation and professional fees.

Under the BREEF scheme, owners of non-residential buildings in Singapore can receive up to $4 million or 90% of the costs of retrofits. The maximum loan tenure is 5 years and the scheme is available until 31 March 2023.

Launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the SBGS offsets up to S$100,000 of additional expenses for external reviews of eligible green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds and promotes the adoption of internationally accepted standards.

The SBGS is available for both first-time and repeat issuers of green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds.

The grant is valid till 31 May 2023.
