Tran Luu Hau (b. 1928) is well-known for his 'abstraction of reality' or abstract expressionism, as others have called it. His paintings have been very popular, and the artist himself has been received in Vietnam as one of the eminent artists. Tran himself served on the propaganda information unit of the Resistance in the 1940s. He later studied in the Masterclass of To Ngoc Van, a pioneer artist of Vietnam. He later taught as a faculty member of the Hanoi Fine Arts University.
Tran's favourite painting subjects have been landscapes and flowers in the expressionistic abstracted style of this artwork Flowers (2007). The painting consists of large brushstrokes in cheerful primary colours.
