Eric Chan has developed a recognizable style with his portrayal of flowers. The subject of his paintings are often bathed in light, subtly dramatised as objects of great beauty. Chan’s objective is to awaken a sense of beauty in the viewer, a reminder to take the time to ‘smell the roses’. This painting particularly uses a grey-green palette, evoking a sort of cold-grey-day look. This serves to accentuate the aesthetic quality of the lilies, bringing out their delicacy and form. The cold tones chosen also suggest a sense of loneliness.

Another work by Chan in the Singtel collection is Lemon I & II, a diptych of the fruit.
