Jac's Learning Centre: 500% growth and counting

Setup as a tuition centre focused on academic tuition in 2008, Mr Jackie Lim, Founder of Jac's Learning Centre has since extended the centre's curriculum to include coding and robotics. This new curriculum was launched to instill 'computational thinking' in his students and align with Singapore's Smart Nation initiative.

Jac's Learning Centre: 500% growth and counting

Jac's Learning Centre employed traditional marketing tactics such as banners, word-of-mouth and flyer distributions in the neighbourhood around Sembawang to market its centre. While flyer distributions helped to almost double the business, it is a costly way to attract only students from within the neighbourhood.

99%SME Campaign: A Platform to Drive Awareness and Extend Reach

"When I saw the television advertisements on the 99%SME campaign, I knew that it was a great opportunity to publicise Jac's Learning Centre and to extend the reach to students staying in other areas. We were able to promote our coding and robotic lessons using the 99%SME campaign platform without incurring additional marketing dollar - a real boost for a SMB like us," said Mr Lim.

Through the campaign, Mr Lim successfully increased awareness and extended his reach, attracting students from as far as Tampines and Bedok. "Thanks to the 99%SME campaign, we doubled the number of students who registered for our robotics lessons," beamed Mr Lim.

As one of the three winners of the 2015 campaign, Mr Lim was the proud recipient of MediaCorp's $100,000 advertising grant. The grant helped him in increasing his outreach and brand exposure through outdoor advertising at 40 bus stops across the island, print and radio advertisements, as well as digital marketing on channelnewsasia.com and todayonline.com.

2016 and Beyond

For the 2016 campaign, Mr Lim plans to reach out to a new target group - the professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs). With the lull in the economy, PMETs looking at making career switches can get themselves equipped to become instructors of robotics lessons by attending the new robotics adults program at Jac's Learning Centre.

Encouraging other SMBs to participate in the program, Mr Lim quipped, "The rippling effect of the 99%SME campaign goes far beyond the immediate. Besides upfront cost savings with an online platform to promote one's offers, you can expect to gain a lot more to effectively kick-start your online marketing efforts."
