Mobile technology is transforming the future of work

A large percentage of employees have suddenly had to adapt to technology that is new to them. Video conferencing, digital documents, collaborative platforms could be relatively new to many small business employees. Going forward, the right technology will be vital to meet the growing needs of a remote workforce. Instead of multiple gadgets – laptop, tablets and smartphones – could a single device better handle remote worker’s needs?

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 is designed as a powerful complement to your existing computing setup and is even capable of becoming a replacement for the traditional remote workforce setup. Everything can be accessed from the smartphone itself. With working structures in flux, SMBs will need to adapt and connectivity is key. While a reliable data connection is important, the right hardware to maintain productivity is also a vital consideration.

A pocket-sized computer replacement

Today’s smartphones are powerful enough to handle most work tasks. The issue is it can be difficult to work exclusively from a phone. The screen is often too small and it’s hard to type anything longer than a few sentences.

The wireless version of the Samsung DeX feature1, available on the Note20, transforms your mobile device into a PC, extending the usability beyond the device’s screen. Employees can use DeX to mirror their smartphone screen onto a compatible monitor or smart TV. The wireless features make presentations simple and means employees really can work from anywhere - all they need is a bigger screen.

Available on select flagship Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note20 series,  you can enjoy tight integration between the Galaxy Note20 and Windows through Microsoft’s Your Phone app2. Users are able to

  • handle messages, manage notifications, sync photos and make and receive calls right from your desktop
  • easily copy and paste texts and drag and drop files between devices
  • access your phone’s mobile apps directly from your Windows 10 PC without breaking your flow.

Microsoft’s productivity applications that are vital for work – Office, Outlook, Teams, OneNote and OneDrive - are all easily accessible via the Galaxy Note20 as well, no matter where your employees are working from.

This is especially useful for users who prefer either storing all their work-related stuff in one place or like to carry their work around with them. The ability to store documents locally on the device (with up to 256GB internal storage) and on cloud platforms frees the users from the challenge of accessing work documents on their laptops only.

Securing documents

Security is a crucial aspect of smart devices; the integration of cloud accounts and collaboration with multiple devices requires a security system that protects information, and that’s where Samsung Knox delivers.

Samsung Knox is a combination of a proven defense-grade security foundation built into Samsung devices, and a suite of business solutions leveraging this platform.

With solutions like Biometric Authentication, Device Loss mitigation, and Secure Workspace Container, Knox makes sure that all data is protected, and that corporate IT security policies are in place. With Knox Manage3, IT administrators can deploy, secure, and manage workers’ devices from remote locations.

Digital notetaking

Handwritten notes can be lost or, more annoyingly, be illegible. The Samsung S pen that comes with the phone is back with enhancements that improves handwriting recognition on the Note20. The S pen is like an extension of your hand, with improved handwriting recognition and in-built shortcuts that speed up the work process significantly.

Users can convert handwritten notes into text4 that can be copied-and-pasted, and save their notes on Samsung’s Notes app, and synchronise it across multiple devices simultaneously enabling them to finish the work they began on the smartphone, on tablet or PC— and vice-versa. These can also be synchronised with Microsoft OneNote (upcoming feature) and converted into Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, or PDF files. This simplifies the workflow and maintains the same level of productivity across all devices.

Easily share documents

Sharing documents with a client or workmate can be difficult when you’re out of the office, especially if Wi-Fi is down. Apart from transferring over mobile 4G, and future 5G, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology reaches other users in within a range of 200 metres.

It makes sharing files as easy as simply pointing the device at the receiving screens to send data. Users will be able to share files between their smartphone and PC or Smart TV through the UWB within seconds, and not depend on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi which are comparatively significantly slower and riskier.

Battery power to last through the day

The 4500 mAH battery in the Note20 Ultra (or 4300 mAH battery in the Note20) means one does not have to be concerned about charging their devices in the middle of conference calls and can continue to use the phone for personal reasons once the workday has wrapped up.

One can join meetings, make notes, prepare presentations, and when that has been done, catch up on movies and music— all within one charge cycle.

Staying connected for optimal productivity

For small businesses to succeed in this new environment, they need to adopt a mobile first mentality. This means having the right device and enough data for it be used to its full capacity. A fast 4G network truly enhances the user experience, and in the near future, the 5G network and applications is going to transform the remote working experience5. Singtel is the first Singaporean telco to harness the 3.5Ghz spectrum, essentially opening the door to 5G, enabling download speeds of more than 1Gbps.

An all-in-one device such as the Samsung Galaxy Note20, injects productivity, efficiency, and technology into an economy that’s largely working anywhere. Armed with these types of devices, business owners can relax knowing that workers have everything they need to deliver their best performance, whether at the office or from home.

1Samsung DeX wireless connection is available on smart TVs that support Phone Screen mirroring only. (For the optimal experience, use on Samsung Smart TVs launched 2019 or later.)

2 To connect your phone to your PC, activate "Link to Windows", and use the "Your Phone" application on your PC. "Your Phone" application is preloaded on PCs with Windows 10, October 2018 Update or later, and is downloadable for Windows 10, April 2018 Update or later versions. Galaxy Note20 series device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi® connection as the PC. Some mobile apps may restrict content to be shared on other screens or may require a touch screen to be able to interact with them. Ability to run multiple apps simultaneously will be available later this year.

3Samsung Knox features that do not come bundled with the Samsung Galaxy Note20 are available with additional charges.

4 Text export function supported only in the Samsung Notes app. Function availability may vary by language. The actual text export function may require some processing to turn writing into text.

5 Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G and Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G are 5G-capable and can be used to access 5G network in Singapore after local 5G network is launched. SIM card upgrade and/or software update may be required. Data subscription fees apply.
