Singtel High-Speed Broadband Information

FAQs

Everything you need to know about Singtel Symmetrical Broadband

  • 1.
How does our XGS-PON Symmetric Broadband Work?
All 3Gbps-10Gbps plans come issued with an XGS-PON Optical Network Router (ONR) that enables symmetrical broadband. Symmetric broadband allows for upload and download speeds to be the same, up to a maximum of up to 10Gbps on our new XGS-PON ONR (depending on what plan you sign-up for).
  • 2.
Can I really get up to 10Gbps speeds as advertised?
Advertised speeds are maximum speeds that can be achieved under perfect conditions (e.g. no network congestion, minimal interference etc.), which are theoretical maximum speeds for optic fibre technology that we use today. However, the industry standard follows typical speeds.
  • 3.
What are Singtel’s typical broadband speeds?
Typical speeds are average speeds which customers typically experience during everyday usage which are more realistic speeds users will see in real-world conditions. The typical download speed range is computed to reflect that at least 90% of the time, a user should experience the lower bound speed or higher. Visit this page for more information or latest updated typical broadband speeds.
  • 4.
Why do speeds vary and what kind of factors affect speeds?
Wired and WiFi Speeds can vary due to different reasons, including but not limited to: Background applications taking up additional bandwidth, security software and firewalls interrupting network traffic, number of connected devices, website traffic, environmental factors (e.g. brick walls, concrete/ steel reinforced flooring and/or pillars, filled fish tanks, reflective surfaces etc.)
  • 5.
What is the difference between Wired and WiFi speeds?
Wired connectivity usually provides the typical maximum speeds allowed by your internet plan (with the right wiring and ethernet port compatibility). They are usually not affected by external interference. WiFi speeds are usually dependent on the internet plan and the WiFi standard used (e.g. WiFi 5, WiFi 6, WiFi 7),which vary as well based on environmental factors like network traffic, distance and external interferences. For more information, do see our FAQ from our different high-speed plans.
  • 7.
What kind of hardware do I need to maximise my Symmetric Broadband?
Additional equipment such as a compatible user devices (including but not limited to handsets, laptops and consoles), ethernet switch(es) (separate charges may apply) and/or wiring installation (if your house is not wired up) may be required to maximise speeds throughout your home to fully enjoy the power of Singtel’s Symmetric Broadband. If you are unsure what is best for your home, book a consultation through our Customer Care or Sales Specialists!
